Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered ministry that brings healing to people with all kinds of hurts, hang-ups, and harmful habits. We focus on God’s healing power through worship, prayer, and application of God’s Word in the context of fellowship with others.

Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step program that emphasizes a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as the foundation and power source for authentic, lasting recovery. We provide a safe, encouraging, and confidential environment for people pursuing freedom and restoration.

Regardless of personal beliefs, all people are invited. We support and encourage one another without trying to fix or control one another. In this caring community, many people gain a deeper view of God’s redemptive purpose for their lives.

FAQs

What Is the Format of a Typical Celebrate Recovery Meeting?

Doors open at 5:30pm for connection and refreshments. The meeting begins at 6:00pm with large-group teaching and worship in the sanctuary (6:00-7:00pm). Open Share groups meet from 7:00-8:00pm.

Do I Have to Be a Believer or a River Shores Member to Attend?

No. Celebrate Recovery is open to anyone interested in Christ-centered recovery from hurts, hang-ups, habits, and addictions.

Do Men and Women Meet Together?

Everyone meets together during large group. Open Share issue groups are gender-specific.

How Is Celebrate Recovery Different from Other 12-Step Programs?

At Celebrate Recovery, Jesus Christ is our Higher Power and Scripture is our authority. We begin by worshiping our Lord through prayer and music.

Do Other 12-Step Programs Work?

Many people benefit from other 12-step groups. Celebrate Recovery does not replace those programs, but we encourage all participants to evaluate everything in light of Scripture.

What Do We Mean by “Safe Place”?

Confidentiality and anonymity are essential. What you hear and who you see stays here. These boundaries protect everyone from judgment and pressure and allow honest, real sharing.

I Do Not Have an Addiction. Can Celebrate Recovery Still Help?

Yes. Many people attend for non-chemical hurts and habits. As Pastor Rick Warren says, everyone has been hurt and has hurt others. Celebrate Recovery offers a safe place for growth and freedom.

What Are the Guidelines for Small Groups?
  • Share from your own thoughts and experiences, and keep sharing to about 3-5 minutes.
  • No cross-talk. Each person may share without interruption.
  • We support one another and do not try to fix one another.
  • What is shared in the group stays in the group, except where safety requires reporting harm to self or others.
  • Offensive language and graphic descriptions are not allowed.
Is Childcare Available?

Yes. Childcare is provided through fifth grade using our children’s program, Celebration Place.

Is There Any Cost to Participate?

No. There are no dues or participation fees. We do accept free-will donations to help cover refreshment costs. Some parts of the program use workbooks and Celebrate Recovery Bibles.

Is Celebrate Recovery Confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality builds trust, promotes growth, and protects participants.

Do I Need a Bible?

No, but having one helps with Scripture references and note-taking. If you do not own one, ask a team member and we will gladly provide one.

What If I Cannot Make It Every Week?

You are welcome to attend large group and open groups whenever you can. Step Studies, however, require weekly participation until completion.

How Do I Get Started?

Just show up at River Shores Church on Monday evening.

What Is the Difference Between Open Share and Step Study Groups?

Open Share: Gender-specific groups focused on many types of hurts and habits. You are never forced to share and can pass at any time.

Step Study: A long-term, confidential group journey through the spiritual steps using specific workbooks and guided facilitation.
